I’ve always called the great outdoors my photographic playground. I am truly inspired by nature; I feel connected to it at my core. Growing up a rancher’s daughter, often I “found myself” as I strolled through the pastures on foot or on horseback, and sometimes, it was the wind that whispered those honest truths I needed to hear. I feel blessed that I had that space growing up, and I feel blessed that I still have access to it now. The Sand Hills is my creative sanctuary, and I have never felt limited on how I can use it as a backdrop in my work.
But.
You know as well as I do that the weather in Nebraska isn’t always as cooperative as we’d like it to be. And, quite frankly, I ready to feed my creative soul by adding a new dimension to my work.
So.
One of my goals for 2012 is to get my “Creative Lounge” up and running, and I’m currently scouting out spaces in our little town to house that creative space. I’ve outgrown my humble little space in my home, and though it is certainly convenient, I am ready to move on to a space where I am not limiting my creativity because of a low ceiling (yes, I’ve had more than a few lumps on my noggin from standing on a small step ladder and forgetting how close the ceiling was to my head).
I have always appreciated the art of studio light. I appreciate how true masters of this craft know how to control and manipulate light to make images that speak. Through my studies of studio lighting, I’ve realized I am drawn to a very specific kind of studio portrait.
I call it the simple, creative, authentic portrait. The kind of portrait where the soul of the person is exposed. The portrait where the miraculous beauty of a baby shines. The portrait where an edgy personality of fashion forward teen is truly illustrated. The portrait where the playfulness that is a child reaches out of the image and makes you smile.
Those are the kinds of images I want to make for you.
So, when you request a “Creative Lounge” session, we will spend time creating simple portraits that illustrate who YOU are.
Bring on the creativity.
