I love these girls!
Almost 10 years ago, they paraded down the aisle of the United Methodist church in Broken Bow, Nebraska, sprinkling silk petals to the sweet melody of Enya on my wedding day. Now, at 13 and 15, they came to spend a week back home on the ranch. A long time ago, their mom, my cousin Kristy, and their uncle, my cousin Justin, came to spend a week or so each summer with us. Those were some of the best times in my life. We did everything together. From riding bikes, to building forts, to getting bubble gum stuck in our hair, putting dumb skits on for my parents (SO humiliating to watch now by the way), to getting into mischief…we did it all when they came to see us. We’ve always had a special connection, so it is just as exciting to get to have these lovely girls stay with us.
This shoot was a special surprise. Their family has been so wonderful all these years, and they have always been there for us. This was my way of honoring the relationship we all share, and I am so glad I got to do this. These girls earned their keep on the ranch. They learned to rake hay, helped out with little ones, and helped keep the place up and looking good. It was fun having them around, sharing stories (and the humiliating videos), visiting our old childhood haunts, and getting to spend time reflecting on how much that word “family” means.
It was great having you girls around, we hope you want to come back after all the hard work you had to do!
We also had fun making a video about our shoot. You can check that out below!
