A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.
~Washington Irving
As I work toward completing the last of our Holocaust Literature Remembrance Project fund raising sessions, I have found myself tearing up a few times. I feel so truly blessed that so many wonderful people have come out to not only support our local students in their educational journey, but have entrusted me to create their family portraits. It was truly an honor to work with each and every one of them, and as I look at Irving’s quote, I feel even stronger about these students’ mission. So many of the pieces of literature that we have read focus on how young ones look to their parents to teach them about how to get through those tough times. I think the quote is fitting because of that.
I have had the pleasure of working with Shannon for quite a few years now, but I have never really gotten to know her son Karter, though I have heard lots of stories about him. He is rather famous around our school, and after spending just a few moments with him, I could see why! This kid is not only handsome, HE IS SO SMART! We had some great conversations in our short time together, and most of them revolved around football (well, he educated ME on football that is). It was so easy to “see” into the relationship that these two have with each other, and being a mom to a little Carter too, I found myself tearing up going through their images. What a blessing our children are, and someday, when Karter is all grown up, I hope he will look back at these special pictures and remember not only how much fun we had making them, but what a special treasure it is to have something tangible to not only celebrate the relationship he has with his mom, but to illustrate it visually.
Thanks for supporting our OHS Remembrance Project Shannon and Karter, we hope you love your images, they are beautiful!
