I’m really fortunate to get to meet some of the people I do. Every day in my classroom, I get to hang out with some pretty amazing kids, and being a photographer allows me the opportunity to meet even more awesome kids. Alyssa is no exception.
Me: “So, do you have some specific ideas you’d like to incorporate into your shoot?”
Her: “Well, I’d like to do a picture in front of a pivot wearing my prom dress.”
Me: “Ok!”
Easier said than done when the corn is all brown and withered from drought and pivots are known to be out in the middle of the fields and surrounded by mud…but I love a challenge, and by golly, we did it! I have to say, her dad gets the props on this one. He works on pivots (and she wanted to show that, so that was the inspiration of her idea), so she gave him the task of scouting out a good Valley pivot because he knew where we could find one in a good location without me having to drive all over Holt County! He TOTALLY delivered, and I have to say, our collaborative efforts came together and culminated in some awesome images for her and her family!
I met Alyssa last year when I was taking one of my MANY photography classes. I had some homework to do for my class, so I did a call for some willing models. We hit it off, and she has helped me out several times. She’s a natural in front of the lens, and we had a really great time on our shoot. Bringing her BFF Mary, who was an AWESOME assistant to me, we had a great time trying out new things and enjoying the peaceful serenity of being out in the country on the lake.
Being pretty active in school activities and organizations, being a very busy babysitter, and being an employee at our local Sandhills Guest House Motel, Alyssa told me that she really wanted her personality to come through, so I asked her to tell me in a few words how she would describe herself.
“I’m a people person, I’m outgoing, and I’m a hard worker. I’m not the most popular girl at school, but I’m ok with that. I’m kinda weird too I guess (insert giggle here)”
I can attest to the fact that indeed, all of those personality traits made an appearance in our time together, lol!
Alyssa, you just added a new definition to “weird”. I love it.
Congrats on your Senior year! I wish you a year full of happy moments, success, and awesome memories!
